REX Animation
REX Animation Festival is Sweden’s largest film festival dedicated exclusively to animation.

Sweden’s only film festival dedicated exclusively to animation
REX Animation Film Festival is a non-profit organisation behind Sweden’s only film festival dedicated exclusively to animation, in 2026 celebrating its 12th edition. Our mission is to promote animation as an art form, raise awareness and inspire interest in animated film across Sweden. We also represent Sweden in international collaborations and networks.
Bringing together students, industry professionals and the general public, REX serves as an important meeting place and platform for animated film. The festival offers an inclusive, international environment where audiences can discover a carefully curated selection of contemporary animation from around the world.
REX was founded in 2015 by a network of European cultural institutes (European Union National Institutes for Culture, EUNIC Stockholm) with the aim of making European animation more accessible and raising its profile as an art form in Sweden. Since then, the festival developed into an independent organisation with a strong international outlook.
Our programme showcases high-quality international animation rarely seen in Swedish cinemas, with many films celebrating their Swedish premieres at REX. Alongside screenings for both children and adults, the festival offers workshops, hands-on activities, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, talks by industry specialists, school screenings and educational workshops. REX also hosts Sweden’s national student competition for animated film.
